What is Noggin? (Part 3)

Not much changed following Noggin's expansion back to 24 hours, but it was here where the channel began to fall more in line with the traditional Nickelodeon style. Most original or Sesame Workshop-related series had either ended production, were barely airing new episodes, or were pushed into the overnight/early morning hours. Nick Jr.'s series had become so dominant that Noggin was now referred to as "Nick's Noggin" in several bumpers and online.

Eventually, in March 2009, Nickelodeon announced that a 24-hour Nick Jr. channel would be replacing Noggin that fall. A similar situation occurred with sister channel The N, which had gradually added programs from Nickelodeon's TEENick block until both brands merged to form TeenNick.

The September 28 switch from Noggin to Nick Jr. was simply a cosmetic change, as the relaunched channel kept the classroom-style aesthetic (including Moose and Zee) and much of the same program lineup for nearly three years. It wasn't until March 2012 that Nickelodeon purged the remaining elements of Noggin from Nick Jr., bringing an end to the brand's 10-year history...

...until January 2015, when Viacom decided to revive Noggin as a dedicated SVOD service. Debuting two months later in March, the new app was a one-way ticket to relive the channel, featuring some of its most recognizable and iconic series.

However, history managed to repeat itself as advertising for newer, recognizable brands like PAW Patrol downplayed the app's archival offerings. Noggin also began to offer built-in educational games, and in 2019, Viacom announced an extensive overhaul for the app.

The changes, which coincided with Viacom acquiring a separate educational app called Sparkler, were set into motion by Noggin's first major rebrand. The iconic "half of a smiling face" logo was retired for a wordmark that better fit in with Nickelodeon's typeface, the 2003 artstyle was replaced by one centered around geometric patterns, while Moose and Zee were permanently retired (though their shorts are still available on the service).
