Cartoon Network’s Brands Outside the United States
Cartoon Network has come a long way since launching back in October 1992. What started as a 24-hour rerun outlet for Hanna-Barbera and Warner Bros. animated programming is now a dedicated kids' brand seen in nearly 200 countries worldwide.
Here in the U.S., CN has extended its offerings to two spin-off services: the nighttime, young adult-targeted Adult Swim, and the classic animation-focused Boomerang. But what most people don't know is that - at least overseas - the CN family is a lot larger than one might expect.
Boing (Southern Europe & Africa; 2004–present)
Boomerang (Latin America; 2006–14)
Later in 2008, Boomerang removed all non-live-action programs and shifted its audience once more, now targeting teenagers. This era lasted until 2014 when the channel became the first Boomerang feed in the world to adopt the 2014-15 rebrand.
Cartoon Network TOO (United Kingdom; 2006–14)
Cartoon Network TOO was a sister channel to Cartoon Network in the UK, launching in 2006. Through the years, its schedule featured reruns of CN's programming, a daytime block of preschool shows (see Cartoonito), lesser-known cartoons, and various action-adventure series. Cartoon Network TOO would shut down in 2014, in favor of a 1-hour timeshift version of the main CN channel.
Cartoonito (Europe, Middle East, Africa & Asia; 2006–present)
Cartoonito is Cartoon Network’s international preschool brand, which began as a daytime block on CN TOO in September 2006. It expanded into a standalone network the following year (2007), and later on, Turner Broadcasting System Europe announced a global rollout of Cartoonito in territories both in and outside the UK.
From fall 2011 to early 2014, Cartoonito-branded blocks aired on Cartoon Network and Boomerang channels across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. Cartoonito also spawned additional feeds in Italy, Spain, and Asia; the latter two were shuttered in 2013 and 2015, respectively. The Middle Eastern block would be relaunched in 2019, while another block for Turkey launched in the same year.
In February 2021, WarnerMedia announced that a Cartoonito block would come to the American Cartoon Network that fall.
CNX (United Kingdom; 2002–03)
Launched in 2002, CNX was a male-focused channel that split its programming between two lineups: a daytime block that used the branding of Cartoon Network's Toonami block; and a nighttime block featuring adult animation, martial arts movies, and other dramas. The channel was closed less than a year after it launched, replaced by a 24-hour version of Toonami.
POGO (India; 2004–present)
POGO is an Indian children's channel that debuted in early 2004. While it previously featured animated and live-action series in the past, POGO shifted its main programming focus towards cartoons.
Toonami (Europe, Asia & Africa; 2003–present)
Even though Toonami currently exists as a late-night block on Adult Swim, it spawned various standalone channels during its Cartoon Network era and the modern-day. Africa and France are the only two countries with a 24-hour Toonami channel, while Southeast Asia, India, and the United Kingdom launched and closed their feeds several years ago.
